This is the program that Barbara Vonk spearheaded. We will
keep her legacy strong by supporting this important concert.
This program helps children of families that could otherwise
not afford music lessons to have scholarships. Bring friends, family and adult students to hear Gini Wilson (also know as the Dutchess of Jazz) perform her magic for this evening of Bach to Bebop. This will be spectacular!
THE ROVING REPORTER
The November Student Recital at the Redwoods was a hit! Kudos to Sally Fletcher for her charming way of chairing the event. Doting parents and grand parents, siblings, friends, plus proud teachers all felt elated after hearing such fine playing.
We had a good turn out and that helped our finances. Keep up the good momentum by entering students often. “It’s a good thing”! A very lucky audience heard Jon Nakamatsu’s Concerts Grand performance in Santa Rosa. Despite his jet lag, he delivered the finest recital one could hope for.
Mark your calendar now for Ken IIsaka’s Concerts Grand Event Sunday January 25th at 3:00pm at JB Piano Co. in San Rafael 540 Irwin St. (take Anderson Dr. to Irwin) The “who’s who” of the music world will be there! See announcement below.
The MTAC STATE NEWS
A Message from Karl Goldstein, Chair of the Adult Performance Program North:
"I would like to encourage all teachers and serious adult students (Level 6 and above) to get involved in this program. While the ultimate aim is to accommodate performers, it is possible to come to the annual event and play all three pieces in a private session with a master teacher. Memorization is optional. Auditioning is an option for students who wish to only observe.
I have several serious adult students who have participated in this event for years. One of my students did all three of her pieces in private sessions the first year. The next year she played in a Master Class. The following year she played in the recital, was accepted to perform at the State Convention, but waited for her fourth year to actually go to the convention and perform,
My students find preparing for the Adult Performance day a great motivator and enjoy attending the Master Classes and Recitals. Please have any interested teachers contact me. Also please know that this program is open to teachers as well, and several MTAC teachers attend this program every year.
The Adult Performance Program will take place at the Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill on Sunday, March 29th 2009. So far the Master Teachers are Diane Hidy and Robert Schwarts.
For more information and application forms go to the MTAC website and click on ADULT PERFORMANCE. Or you can contact the North California Chair Karl Goldstein, at 510 – 848-3422 or mtac.org"

BARBARA VONK MEMORIAL REFLECTION:
A lovely sunny day in Mill Valley marked the Memorial gathering for Barbara Vonk. Many MTAC members attended and MTAC members who performed included Paul Agricola, Elenor Barcsak, Stephen Shen, Sandra Simich and Gini Wilson.
Many of Barbara’s grand children and friends filled the room with musical offerings and anecdotes. Christina Bradley wrote an Elegy in her honor. Chris Vonk was deeply touched by the great turnout in honor of Barbara. Her legacy lives on in the Discovery Scholarship Program. See you at the Discovery Scholarship Concert February 7th and know that we all share her loss yet still honor her memory.
