Dear MTAC Marin Branch members,
A hearty welcome back. This message comes to you from the desk of your new President Elenor Barcsak. First I would like to thank our past President Christina Bradley for her indefatigable work. Kudos to our Board Members and Officers who did such a fine job. There are many venues for our Student Recitals and Events, so please be alert to the changes. I have appreciated your past support and fell honored to once again be President.

Welcome back to another CM year! Our CM date is Saturday, April 4,2009, and we will be at the College of Marin again. Please come to our Information Meeting, Sunday, September 14, 2008, 3:00P.M. at Tamalpias Bank, 100 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. San Anselmo.Amy Martin, a member of the State CM Council, will conduct the meeting; this should give us a different perspective on the program and the mechanics of registering and preparing our students.
There are a number of new pieces of information that everyone should have, and these will be presented at the meeting. Let’s remind Amy (who evaluated us last March) what an enthusiastic and knowledgeable group we are! Please RSVP to helenknow@aol.com Knowing how many people will attend ensures that we have enough chairs and hand-outs! Remember, registration opens September 15 and closes Novembern15; this year the process will again be completed entirely online.

Directions to this Church: From HWY#101 take the Paradise Exit, go WEST on Paradise to first Stop Light. You will see the Bank of America and turn left. Go one short block and turn right on Meadowsweet Drive. The Church can be seen on up your left. Easy Handicapped Parking Area accessed by taking the driveway on the right side of the Church all the way up to the top and turn left. For easy entry and parking. Yes, the Library is in the same block.
ENTRY FEE: $8.00 per student is non-refundable.
To enter your students, you can download an entry form from the website www.matacmarin.org
Send just one check for your total studio’s tally made out to MTAC Marin Branch along with the completed Student Recital Entry Form to the Chair of this Recital. Each Teacher is allowed 10 minutes total time per Program and a total of 7 students.. The only exceptions are for a student who is also entering the Margaret B. Davis Competition and is required to play in a Student Recital in order to qualify to enter the Competition and the Teen Recital.
Remind students’ guests and family members that the admission to attend the Recital is free. The entry fee is only for the performers. Also The Chair should announce some etiquette rules about Cell Phone to be turned off, and remind everyone that in live performance, no photos are taken until after the performance. There is ample time for posed photos after all have played.
IN MEMORIUM
A Memorial Service for Dmitri Mihailoff on August 26th at 2:00P.M. was posted in the IJ Newspaper along with his photo. His son David arranged for the Memorial to be held at their residence 16 Barber Street , San Enselmo C.A. Dmitri was a fine pianist and teacher.
His father was an editor of a Russian Newspaper in San Francisco and knew Rachmaninoff. He was 86 years old and still supporting the arts by being in the audience of the showing of the Documentary Film “Note by Note” and the Tiburon Music Festival. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends. He will be missed. Friends may contact Dmitri’s son Davis may call (415) 459-0154.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
CHRISTINA BRADLEY: Sarah Lemesh, who studied piano with Christina Bradley and voice with Charlotte Nytzen, won first place and a cash award of $10,000 in the vocal division of the Beach Blanket Babylon Scholarship for the Arts competition held June 9th in San Francisco. Sara will be attending the Shephard School of Music at Rice University this fall and plans to major in vocal performance with a minor in piano accompanying.
MTAC STATE NEWS
Our Branch received three awards at the State Convention. Certificated and spiffy Ribbons were mailed to our Branch and will eventually be turned over to our Branch Historian Judy Lichterman. The awards were for Best HEADER PAGE, Certificate of Participation in SCRAPBOOK AND AWARDS PROGRAM FOR YEARBOOKS AND DIRECTORIES, and a Certificate of Participation in OTHER MATERIALS CATEGORY.
PIANIST POSITION AVAILABLE

A pianist is need at Greenwood School. The position is available starting September 11th.
You will be playing piano for 7th grade, 1st grade, and Kindergarten, some improvisation will be required. You will be needed every Thursday from 8:25 am to 1:30pm (three classes). The rate is $27 per class.

NEW CLASSICAL MUSIC WEB SITE

The North Bay has a new web site for all aspects of classical music – www.classicalsonoma.org.
Contained in this user-friendly site are concert reviews and listings, information on almost 40 presenting organizations, and photos. Presenters can update schedules and events directly on-line without delays, including uploading art work. This exciting new way to publicize MMTA events was designed by Santa Rosa violinist and attorney John Thompson. Currently there are eight reviewers for events in four counties, including Tiburon pianist and writer Donna Kline.

Russian virtuoso Elena Ulyanova launches Concerts Grand’s collaboration with Tiburon’s St. Hilary Church Nov. 14 in an exciting West Coast debut recital, followed by a gala gourmet buffet dinner.
Ms. Ulyanova has programmed Soler’s Sonata in D, Beethoven’s mighty “Appassionata” Sonata and Chopin’s Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise, Op. 22. In the second half she will play two Debussy Preludes and the Soiree Dans Grenada and Rachmaninoff’s volcanic B-Flat Sonata, Op. 36. There will be a pre-recital reception from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the recital and buffet at 7. Tickets are $25 (reception and recital) and $50 (reception, recital and buffet) and are available from Concerts Grand – (707) 526-2447 and www.concertsgrand.com. Ken Iisaka returns to the Concerts Grand stage, this time near his Marin home, performing Haydn’s Sonata in C, No. 60; Berg’s Sonata, Op. 1; a Debussy Prelude; the Adagio from Krenek’s Third Sonata; and two demanding masterworks: the Brahms-Handel Variations and Fugue, Op. 24, and Nikolai Medtner’s Sonata-Ballada, Op. 27. The concert is 3 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2009, at the JB Piano Emporium, 540 Irwin Street, in downtown San Rafael.
